Common Accidents that Lead to Personal Injury Claims

Accidents are bound to happen, and when they do, the law requires that negligent and at-fault parties be held responsible for compensating those who have been injured. This can be a complicated process, however, and certain types of accidents can make injury claims trickier than others.

At Wandres Law, PC, our experienced personal injury lawyers help clients who have been injured in accidents pursue their personal injury claims. We handle a variety of injury cases arising from many types of accidents, and some common accidents that lead to legal matters are listed below.

Car Accidents

Accidents involving motor vehicles are the most common incidents that lead to personal injury claims in the U.S. The number of people injured in car accidents on U.S. roads is in the millions each year, with many of them fatal. Sadly, many of these accidents are avoidable and the result of negligence by one of the drivers involved.

Boating Accidents

Oklahoma has more man-made lakes than any other state in the United States, and the state also has more shorelines than both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts combined. It is, therefore, natural that recreational boating occurs all over the state, and it is also natural that there are more boat accidents and boat-related injuries that happen on these waters for a variety of reasons.

Motorcycle Accidents

Many people enjoy the freedom of riding motorcycles – not just for fun, but as a means of transportation to work or school. The popularity of motorcycle riding is increasing, and with more motorcycle ridership, accidents involving motorcycles are also increasing. The severity of injuries following a motorcycle accident is proven to be greater when a rider is not wearing a helmet, but Oklahoma only requires riders and passengers who are under the age of 18 to wear a helmet when riding.

Bicycle Accidents

Bicycles are an efficient, environmentally friendly, and quick way to travel short distances while taking in some fresh air. For these reasons, the use of bicycles has also increased in recent years – so much that in some cities, the business of electric bicycle rentals has increased ten-fold. Unfortunately, accidents involving all types of bicycles are also on the rise accordingly.

Slip and Fall Accidents

Another common accident that leads to personal injury claims is slip and falls, which are accidents that occur as the result of hazardous conditions. Business owners and property owners are individually and collectively required to keep their premises safe for the public that comes in or through them. Wet floors are a common cause of slip and fall accidents, and if an injured person can show that their slip and fall was caused by certain hazards, then they may be entitled to compensation for their injuries.

Product Liability

Products liability refers to holding manufacturers and sellers of products liable for harm caused by their product. The law requires that manufacturers and makers of products ensure that the product they make is safe and works properly when used for the intended purpose. If a product is defective and someone using the product is injured, the manufacturer, and often those in the line of distribution of that product, could be held liable for damages if it is proven that the product was defective.

Workplace Accidents

Workplace accidents are common and are often caused by unsafe working conditions, defective or malfunctioning equipment, inadequate training, and other reasons. Jobs with the most incidents of workplace injuries include movers, truck drivers, and laborers. The law requires that if an employee or worker is injured in the workplace due to any of these reasons, they must be compensated monetarily either through workers’ comp or third-party claims.
