For more than 130 years, the firm of Martindale-Hubbell has rated attorneys to assist prospective clients and other attorneys in making informed choices.
Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings are established by lawyers and judges who have personal knowledge of an individual attorney’s work and ethical standards, and are an objective indicator of a lawyer’s high ethical standards and professional ability. Martindale-Hubbell representatives conduct personal interviews with members of the bar to discuss lawyers under review. In addition, the company sends out surveys to members of the judiciary in the lawyer’s practice area to determine the lawyer’s level of ethical and legal quality.
There are two components to each Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating:
1. Legal Ability Ratings which take into consideration the standard of professional ability in the area where the lawyer practices, the lawyer’s expertise, and other professional qualifications.
2. General Ethical Standards Rating which denotes adherence to professional standards on conduct and ethics, reliability, diligence and other criteria relevant to the administration of professional responsibilities.
